Nina Curtis of the Nile Institute shared some ancient anecdotes for preparing for your big day. “In Indonesia, the bride-to-be enjoys a Javanese royal lulur ritual, conducted each day for forty days before her wedding to get prepared for the ceremony. During this time, she is given a Balinese massage, a sweet skin scrub, and a full-body mask with yogurt, turmeric, rice and jasmine essential oils along with flower petal baths.” The older female relatives who administer the lulur also use the time to pass on wisdom and nurturing. I don’t know about you but I’m all for adopting this tradition into our American lifestyles and immediately!
